1st Grade Wayne Thiebaud Donuts and Cupcakes

1st graders learned about artist Wayne Thiebaud. In half of the sections students drew a donut and used gel markers and metallic crayons.  In the other half students drew cupcakes using crayons and watercolor.

Kindergarten Georgia O 'Keeffe Flowers

Kindergarteners learned about the artist Georgia O'Keeffe by watching an instructional video on Brain Pop Jr.  They then looked at images of flowers and drew from one that the liked.  They were instructed to magnify their drawing.  We then used watercolor to add color and students outlined their flowers with black glue.

4th Grade Van Gogh Sunflowers

4th graders learned about artist Vincent van Gogh.  We talked about his style and and his use of short impressionistic brushstrokes.  

Our particular focus was on his Sunflowers painting.  

We also watched this reading of Laurence Anholt's book, Camille and the Sunflowers, based off the Sunflowers painting by Vincent van Gogh.

4th Grade Georgia O'Keeffe Flowers

4th Graders learned about artist Georgia O'Keeffe and her art endeavors.  Students explored her style of taking a real object and abstracting it.  We too, like Georgia O'Keeffe used the flower as subject matter. Student were to zoom in as if they had a "bug's eye view."  Student then painted their flower using complementary colors.

1st Grade Warm/Cool Cool Umbrellas

1st Graders discussed warm and cool colors and in honor of the many rainy days we have had we made brightly colored umbrellas to keep us dry. Students painted raindrops on their cool colored backgrounds and to make sure we didn't have a gloomy rainy day we added a little glitter (something I never like to use because of the mess).

5th Grade M&M Value Study

5th graders discussed value and shading.  We started out by doing shading and value exercises with pencil.  We then did the same thing using color.  Students were to pick an M&M character and use shading and value techniques using oil pastels to create the look of a 3D M&M. Students loved this.
