4th Grade Wayne Thiebaud Desserts

4th Graders studied American Artist Wayne Thiebaud.

We learned a little more about him by watching this video:

Students were to make their own Wayne Thiebaud inspired piece.  When looking at Wayne Thiebaud's paintings we tried to break the desserts down into simple shapes and forms.  For example when looking at his cakes students saw that he use a cylinder and with his pies he made a triangular prism.  This correlation of form and shape gave students a different perspective when drawing.

The next step was to add on the color and make their dessert look like a real 3D dessert.  Using oil pastels students blended together using different values to bring life to their desserts.
