4th Grade Wayne Thiebaud Desserts

4th Graders studied American Artist Wayne Thiebaud.

We learned a little more about him by watching this video:

Students were to make their own Wayne Thiebaud inspired piece.  When looking at Wayne Thiebaud's paintings we tried to break the desserts down into simple shapes and forms.  For example when looking at his cakes students saw that he use a cylinder and with his pies he made a triangular prism.  This correlation of form and shape gave students a different perspective when drawing.

The next step was to add on the color and make their dessert look like a real 3D dessert.  Using oil pastels students blended together using different values to bring life to their desserts.

Kindergarten Andy Warhol Pop Art Hands

Kindergarteners explored the world of pop art and looked at some of Andy Warhol's work.
Using our hands and neon paint we came up with some awesome pieces!

1st Grade Angry Bird Color Wheel

1st graders dove into color theory.  We watched this fun video:

This was a two day project the first day we created our color wheel. Students started with the primary colors and did their best to mix colors to make the secondary colors. On day two of the project we made our color wheel into Angry Birds.  Each student got a red, yellow, blue, orange, green, and purple sheet of paper.  We made beaks and feathers out of the construction paper.Students used sharpies to draw on eyes and eyebrows.  After all the parts were glued on students used a white oil pastel to color, the eyes, teeth and bellies.

1st Grade Royal Self Portraits

1st graders learned about the self portrait.  Students painted their self portrait.  The next day we went back and talked about the proper placement and shapes of our eyes, nose, and mouth.  We discussed different hairstyles.  Students used oil pastels to show all of their details.  To finish it off students made themselves either a king or queen.  They designed a crown out of painted gold paper and used oil pastels to add some decoration.
