Kindergarteners take Color

Several weeks back, my kindergarten classes dove in head first to the concept of color.

We first explored the world of primary colors and lines to create these masterpieces:

Next up was to explore what the primary colors can do so we painted paper and made the secondary colors.  I've done this every year with my kindergarteners because they really seem to understand the concept of the primary colors making the secondary colors when they do the mixing themselves.

This year I switched it up a little bit, check out the past few years here and here.  Although, you can't go wrong with the colors I think I kind of like the one's from years past better...what do you think?

1st Grade Angry Bird Color Wheel

1st graders dove into color theory.  We watched this fun video:

This was a two day project the first day we created our color wheel. Students started with the primary colors and did their best to mix colors to make the secondary colors. On day two of the project we made our color wheel into Angry Birds.  Each student got a red, yellow, blue, orange, green, and purple sheet of paper.  We made beaks and feathers out of the construction paper.Students used sharpies to draw on eyes and eyebrows.  After all the parts were glued on students used a white oil pastel to color, the eyes, teeth and bellies.

3rd Grade Primary and Secondary Colors OP Art

3rd graders are looking at the color wheel focusing on the primary and secondary colors.   We watched this fun video to help remind us of our colors. We talked about the difference between 3D and 2D and how to make something look 3D on a 2D surface.
