6th graders learned about the artist Andy Warhol and the Pop Art movement.
We began by talking about pop culture. What is pop culture? We discussed how things in pop culture are different now then when Andy Warhol was living and creating work. We also discussed how my pop culture might be different then theirs. We also discussed things that have been part of pop culture for many years like Coca-cola and other brands or food products. After looking at some of Andy Warhol's work and discussing the process of screen printing students were challenged to come up with their own pop art inspired Warhol piece. Students did so with the printmaking process. The designed on a foam square and were allowed to print their image on one piece of paper using four different colored inks.
